The Message

As the saying goes, these are my ideas, if you don’t like them I have others. What follows is my projected message for a campaign. Feedback is welcome. I might note for those who are not local, the target district is suburban and has few African-Americans. The proportions of Latino and Asian (South Asian in particular) are much higher. The suburbs here are relatively well off, the more rural areas are heavily red.

Without further ado:

Hate Should Have No Home in Loudoun County

Unfortunately, signs to the contrary are painfully evident. We’ve endured phony moral panics over Critical Race Theory and transgender bathroom policies. Recently a local mall was defaced with racist, antisemitic, homophobic graffiti.

My name is Max B. Sawicky. I live in Lovettsville and I’m running for the House of Delegates in District 30. I’m a retired economist with the Federal government, specializing in state and local finance, so I am more qualified for this position than most, but that is not why I am running.

Bias is brewing in the U.S. and in Virginia towards Muslims, Jews, African-Americans, LGBTQI people, people of color, and immigrants.

Transphobia is the gateway drug to a full spectrum of unfolding prejudices. It is the principal grassroots organizing tool for the unhinged followers of Donald Trump, who directed the mob that sacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. Some of the miscreants live right here in Loudoun and have been attacking our public schools for years.

Along with pushing back against all forms of intolerance, I want to:

·      Get reproductive rights on the Virginia ballot in 2024

·      Defend our public schools and colleges from bigoted, ignorant harassment, and make sure they are amply funded

·      Open up production and distribution of cannabis

·      Expand broadband access

·      Promote sustainable energy sources in preference to fossil fuels
