Veep Is Real

I just finished bingeing the entire seven seasons. I'd seen it before. At one point in the story, maybe season five or so, the series's chief figure of ridicule, Jonah Ryan, manages to run for president and actually does well. As a Member of Congress, he managed to form his own caucus in the House. The basis for his appeal is his adoption of MAGA talking points, well before the ascent of Trump. The overlap between his absurdities and actual popular sentiment is striking. One of his hobby horses is to abolish Daylight Saving Time. Another is to denounce "Muslim math." Of course he plots with his gang to blow up debt ceiling negotiations. The least realistic points are when the character goes into extreme acts of self-sabotage and unaccountably survives politically, but of course Trump has done that too.
