With my teacup full of knowledge about Judaism, I'd say that is highly contestable, if "Jewish" refers to the religion or to the diverse cultural histories (respectively, of Ashkenazi, Sephardim, or Mizrahim).

Max, you are ignoring that Israel has a state religion and was created to be a land for Jews. I’m reading about the history of Zionism now. It has meant many different things to different people over 130 years Binational state. Nonstate. Jewish state.

Putin can adopt Eastern Orthodox Christianity, but whether that makes him an Eastern Orthodox Christian is a different matter. You're right Zionism has diverse meanings, some of which do not contemplate or reject violently the formation of a Jewish state.

Shaul Magid's "The Necessity of Exile" was a revelation to me.

Politically it means Jewish supremacy in whatever territory the IDF controls. The ideological justification if needed comes after.
