not if Michelle agrees to run. I hope they're considering that on the down low. That would be it for Trump.

What makes you think that's even under consideration? Barack Obama stood behind Trump the other night. Michelle Obama is an unknown quantity. You're spreading fantasies.

I find it more than a little annoying that leftists aren't even THINKING about why the New York Times has been so shitty to Biden, going back to long before this debate. To me, it seems most likely it's a Wall Street reaction to Biden's coalition with the left. Too much climate change. They don't like the repeal of the Trump Tax Cuts. Why hasn't he kicked Bernie and AOC to the curb instead of leaving them in his coalition? What's with all this standing on UAW picket lines?

I'm beginning to think the left has lost its mind over Gaza. Yes, Biden's Gaza policy sucks. But that's one thing the Times LIKES! Meanwhile, while the Wall Street wing at the Times is using one poor debate to punish Biden for being too left, the left doesn't even acknowledge those policies as being left!

I didn't say it's under consideration. I'm just looking at the field of possibilities and speculating on the surest way to defeat Trump, post-debate. My political preference would be Whitmer, but she's not well known and it would take more than 6 months to galvanize the anti-Trump vote. I prefer her because she understands the fascist threat. No one else in the party seems to, including Michelle, but the latter could/would mop the floor with Trump, which is the desired outcome.

I think the ruling class today is more apolitical than ever, and think government is a pain in the neck. The only good thing is they aren't really coalescing around Trump -- they're incoherent politically, as are we.

What's your second sentence referring to?

At this point in time, I regard any discussion or speculation about replacing Biden as a dangerous distraction from the task at hand. Period. Unfortunately, we don't have the luxury of idle chatter. Loose lips sink ships. You may disagree. I'll not respond further.

My second sentence? I'm not sure which of my many sentences you're referring to.

One characterological advantage of the political right is that they understand in their bones that people are neither rational nor well-informed. Our side (centrist neolibs to lefties) overestimates peoples' capacity to assimilate and process information. We go apeshit over one bit of bad news. They don't. They're correct. Like Karl Rove said: "Politics is TV with the sound turned off."

This debate will likely wash out in the general noise.
