One of the dumber controversies afoot is the palaver over policies aiming at “equity versus equality.” The observer might wonder, don’t these mean roughly the same thing?
On the rare occasions when I read the comments on Wall Street Journal articles, there are more frequent expressions of fear that Democrats are out to destroy the dynamism of the American economy with their push for equality of result. Sometimes I actually bother to reply that it's another ridiculous RW bogeyman given (a) how much the economy has moved away from equality of result over the past 45 years and (b) the minimal degree to which Democratic leadership's policy proposals would offset that growth in inequality.
I didn't know this was a MAGA thing; I thought it was a way for bien pensant liberals to dunk on Bernie Sanders
I've never seen this deployed by anyone at all left of center. Probably some "New Democrat" types have talked it, but it's huge on the Right.
